Vertical SaaS Weekly Roundup (July 23rd, 2022)

Every week (or so) we will share the most interesting Vertical SaaS news with our community, we'd love to hear your thoughts, feel free to hit reply or send us a note at info@verticalsugar.com

1. More VCs focus on Vertical SaaS: Index Ventures are betting on industry-specific software as the market sours. The tenants of their thesis are: 1. vSaaS is mission critical.  2. vSaaS helps customers operate more efficiently. 3. vSaaS vendors can continue to sell new products into an existing customer base. 4. In a recession businesses will consolidate spend. Link

Our 2 cents: Of course we agree and it's great to see more VCs joining this line of business.

2. Bling bling! Jewelry vSaaS: Crystal, cloud-based inventory management and point-of-sale platform for single and multi-location jewelry stores. Link

Our 2 cents: Jewelry vSaaS makes a lot of sense, online Jewelry stores have been doing incredibly well since they didn't need to hold inventory. vSaaS can help brink and mortar go multichannel and generally compete.

3. ERPs become industry-specific: Acumatica new CEO perspective on the future of their business: "A couple of years ago, we would have talked about us being more of a general business management software package. Now the vast majority of our business is in four key industries: construction, distribution, manufacturing and retail e-commerce. For our industry, it's clear that for our customer size -- $10 million to $200 million companies -- you need some specificity." Link

Our 2 cents: Embedded SaaS will allow many vSaaS to become an ERP at a fraction of the cost and complexity.

4. 10 things your IT team should check before buying airport software - what's interesting to see in this article is the lack of sophistication. The article is published in a popular trade website and shows how much help these industries need. With +40K airports in the world, this can be big business and if it lowers delays we'd all love it. Link

5. Product principles for deploying AI in Vertical SaaS - our very own article fresh this week. AI is starting to make a difference everywhere. It will be amazing for vSaaS if adopted correctly. Link
